Monthly Event Hosted by Northeast KC Chamber of Commerce
November 17, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Note: our event is on Wednesday, November 17, the third Wednesday of the month (due to Thanksgiving, of course). 🙂
The Urban Core is excited to host our final event of the year at the Northeast KC Chamber of Commerce (NEKCCoC) headquarters located on Independence Avenue in the Historic Northeast (HNE). Their mid-century building is also utilized by the Historic Northeast Arts (HNE) and the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (IACID) which serves to improve the community surrounding Independence Avenue through supporting local businesses, beautification, and educational and celebratory events.
Our last meeting of the year coincides with the NEKCCoC’s theme of “International Marketplace” as approximately 40 languages are spoken in the area. The following International Foods will be provided:
* Yasmeen Cafe – East African Food
* Pho79 – Chinese & Vietnamese Cuisine
* Elvira’s Pasteleria – Mexican Desserts
For reference, the Chamber building is south of Independence Ave. Parking: there are 4-5 parking stalls directly north of the building which should be reserved for anyone who can only walk short distances. More parking is available on the west and south sides of the building. There is also street parking south of the building. North of Independence Ave. is a vacant building formerly Avenue Pawn Shop which can be used for parking as well.
There is another Chamber building directly to the east which we hope will be open for touring. It contains artwork, crafts, etc. by local residents.
The building is named after one of Kansas City’s Founding Fathers, William Miles Chick, KC’s first Postmaster. Originally built in 1964 as a Post Office, its expansive interior space is now re-purposed for NEKCCoC/IACID/HNE business meetings and community gatherings. Come see an elaborate model of Independence Ave, work by local artists, and enjoy the exciting improvements underway along the Avenue of the Historic Northeast.
Also, we will be voting on the Urban Core Group’s proposed slate for next year.
PROPOSED URBAN CORE GROUP BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR 2022
Chairman: Bruce Cramer
Vice-Chairman: Ben Skalitzky
Secretary: Mike Spady
Treasurer: Jake Kretsinger
Directors: Shawn Adams
Laurel De Freece
Masks will be required for all attendees whether they have been vaccinated for COVID-19 or not. No mask, no entry. Masks must be worn except while eating or drinking.
