Since 1978, The Whole Person provides a variety of community-based, consumer-driven services to people with disabilities to promote consumer control and choice of services, self-direction, empowerment, independence, self-reliance, self-help, self-advocacy and integration into the community. The services they provide emphasizes peer relationships and peer role models.
The Whole Person not only assists people with disabilities to live independently and encourages change within the community to expand opportunities for independent living, but also advocates positive changes within the community, increases awareness of disability issues, and promotes the civil rights of people with disabilities.
On the National Historical Register, formerly known as the Goodenow Textiles Company Building, a 1920’s garment factory, The Whole Person purchased and renovated their new headquarters according to universal design principals, creating a space that is accessible for everyone.
