Monthly Event Hosted at the Veterans Community Project
March 25 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Urban Core Group members & supporters,
Mayor Quinton Lucas, in conformance with the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, has extended Kansas City’s State of Emergency for an additional 8 weeks, part of which is the banning of meetings of 50 or more people. This is part of the “social distancing” measures to slow the spread of the Corona virus.
The Urban Core Group is, therefore, postponing both our March 25th event at the Veterans Community Project and our April 29th joint event with the Historic West Bottoms. We will attempt to reschedule these events for a later date.
In the meantime, wash your hands, cover your cough with your elbow, practice “social distancing,” and, if necessary, self-quarantine. Be patient, be careful, and be kind.
– Urban Core Group Board
The Veterans Community Project is technically located at 8900 Troost Ave (the public VCP address) but 1201 East 89th Street is the actual address to map the drive to our event. Off-street parking is available at the two the Veterans Community Project offices at 89th & Troost. On-street parking is also available on the North side of 89th Street.
The Veterans Community Project (VCP) was launched on Veteran’s Day in November of 2015 to address the unmet needs of hundreds of homeless Veterans in Kansas City. VCP purchased 4.2 acres located at 1201 East 89th Street, Kansas City, MO 64131 (Near the intersection of 89th and Troost) from the City of Kansas City to continue building on their outreach to the community.
On any given night, more than 37,000 veterans are homeless in the United States. In KC, the Veterans Community Project refuses to let any Veteran fall through the cracks. From providing housing to offering walk-in support services, they’re here for everyone who took the oath to serve America.
