PRESS RELEASE: Kansas City CHALK & WALK Festival
May 1, 2010
ARTISTS WILL CREATE URBAN GALLERY AT CROWN CENTER SQUARE
(KANSAS CITY, Mo.)- The third annual Kansas City Chalk and Walk Festival, a multi-cultural, community wide, street painting festival, will turn Crown Center Square into a vibrant canvas, Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20. Festivities will take place from 11:00am to 8:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday.
Hundreds of professional, amateur, and student, Kansas City and regional artists, will use chalk pastels to create colorful, charming and exciting drawings with 16th century Italian Renaissance roots. This process is gradual, and spectators are encouraged to come back the second day to see the “finished product”. Artists will choose to draw from three different themes: the Masters, Alice in Wonderland, and Originals.
Youngest visitors can join the Children’s Creative Corridor and Workshops. These workshops will be carried out by JumpStart KC, Mattie Rhodes Art Center, Parisole Arts Foundation, UMKC Community Music and Dance Academy, the Kansas City, Missouri Public Library, and the Hip Hop Academy. In addition, Harvesters- The Community Food Network will be collecting non-perishable food donations during the festival. There is an adjacent area where young artists can chalk for free. Chalk for children is provided by Crayola.
While strolling the outdoor gallery, visitors will be entertained by street performers, who will be dressed in Alice in Wonderland costumes. Photo opportunity of a “Tea Party” will be provided to all visitors. In addition, artists/crafters will be displaying and selling their artwork.
