The historic Peck's Building (also known as Peck's Plaza) located at 1044 Main Street in downtown Kansas City is undergoing a $27.5 million residential conversion into 74 loft apartments and ground-floor commercial space.
History and Architecture
Built: 1914 by the architectural firm Root and Siemens
Design: Chicago Commercial Style featuring polished marble, Indiana limestone, granite, and ornate terra cotta
Significance: Served as the flagship home for the George B. Peck Dry Goods Co. department store at the heart of the historic "Petticoat Lane" shopping district until it closed in 1964
Landmark: Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980

Developers: Acquired by investors affiliated with Exact Architects in mid-2026 for a major historic adaptive reuse project
Project Scope: Conversion of the upper floors into 74 loft apartments and the ground level into a restaurant or retail space
Location Benefit: Positioned directly along the KC Streetcar line in the Central Business District
